A Farmer’s Creativity

As I, Alice, was enjoying some luscious and juicy fresh Michigan sweet corn I was reminded of how a Pennsylvania Farmer’s creativity impacted His Wheels last summer. This farmer grew sweet corn and made it available for those in his church. You could take as much as you needed. The payment he asked was that each person donate the amount of money they felt was reasonable for the corn to another organization. I don’t know if it was limited to organizations but I do know that HWI was the organization one person chose to make the beneficiary of this farmer’s creative generosity.

Refining Our Focus

After 8 years of distributing over 1,700 two-wheeled bicycles we are ending that aspect of our ministry so we can focus our undivided attention on our hand-pedaled trikes. The initial bicycle goal Alice set was 100 in her lifetime. We have finished that aspect of the ministry well.

Finished the 2-wheeled ministry well

Today after 8 years of working with 2-wheeled  bicycles we are ending the bicycle division of our ministry. We are narrowing our focus so we can concentrate on our hand-pedaled three-wheelers we affectionately call trikes.

The first pickup today was from World Relief. They picked up the last 6 adult bikes. We have partnered with World Relief since 2006 and have provided over 600 bikes to refugees and immigrants in DuPage County.

Photo Shoot June 26, 2013

Resurrection University/West Suburban Hospital is featuring a story on Alice Teisan in their August 2013’s award winning Reflections jounral. Alice graduated from West Suburban School of Nursing in 1984.

Along with the article Resurrection U sent out Allen Bourgeois to do a photo shoot. Thanks to Allen and Resurrection U’s generosity we have been given permission to feature the pictures on our site.

Thanks from Mexico

Tonight I, Alice got a knock on her door and there were recognizable faces but I couldn’t remember where I knew them from. Back in 2009 and 2010 this missionary family came by and got about 8 bikes. They loaded them onto a vehicle headed for Mexico. One of their ministries is camp work and one of the program options is bicycling. Every year students have the privilege of using bikes at camp thanks to His Wheels International.

Two More Trikes Distributed in Ethiopia

Talked with my friend and missionary nurse Carolyn Adolph on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Carolyn is serving at Soddo Christian Hospital in Ethiopia. I learned that this week that a group of about 8 people came from the local disability society all in need of trikes. They only had 2 left and they were both given away. The leader from the local disability group made the decision of who received the trikes.  (more…)

Passing on the Wrench!

Look who stopped to visit us at HWI! It is Grant, our former bike director, his wife Katie, and young Will. Grant’s dad owned 2 bicycle stores while Grant was growing up. So we are passing on the wrench to the next generation. Thanks Will for bringing your mom and dad by to see us again.
