The End of our Bicycle Division

     As of June 1, 2013, His Wheels International (HWI) will no longer be accepting bicycle donations. We
are winding down the two-wheeled bicycle aspect of our ministry and plan to end the bicycle division by September 14, 2013.
      I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have had a part in our bicycle division. Thanks
for directing people towards HWI who have had bicycles to donate, time to volunteer, and for a variety of
other reasons. Thanks also to those of you who have donated bicycles, surplus stock, tools, and accessories.
I also want to thank you for lending us your professional expertise and also for helping us get the word
out about our ministry. Without your assistance, we never would have been able to touch so many lives in our community, throughout the United States, and internationally with our bicycle ministry. As a team,
we have distributed almost 1,700 bicycles that we have collected and our mechanics have rehabbed so we could recycle them to those in need of basic transportation and for many their first set of wheels in the United States.

Spring Arbor University Enactus Regional Competition 2013

Spring  Arbor University (SAU) has an Enactus chapter on their campus. You can read more about Enactus by clicking this link http://enactus.org/. One of the three projects the SAU students presented at the Regional Competition in Chicago this April was a way to keep the trike project in India sustainable.

In the presentation below you can see the multimedia component of their presentation they showed during competition. The SAU students won first runner up in their division.

In January 2013, we sent a His Wheels International trike kit via Messiah College’s Collaboration in Pennsylvania to a SIM Rehabilitation site in Mahadaga, Burkina Faso, Africa. While there for a January course, a couple of engineering students, along with some nationals, welded the trike together. John, Messiah’s engineering trip faculty advisor, said, “It was done on a questionably ‘flat’ concrete floor, with a square, tape measure, and the front fork trike template. We built it with good results.” (more…)

WBEZ Global Expo Recap

On April 6, 2013 His Wheels International had a booth at WBEZ’s 6th Annual Global Expo and University of Illinois Chicago. We couldn’t have had such a successful day without the help of our faithful volunteers Stephanie, Daniel and Mark. There were about 3,300 people who visited the expo throughout the day. Trikes to Pennsylvania and Niger

Flag-PennsylvaniaOn Sunday we sent a trike with one of our volunteers to Sebring, FL. From there the trike will be loaded onto a container headed for Niger. Steve, a missionary in Niger had stopped by His Wheels while here in the states. While here he saw the trike, we discussed possibilities for the trike in Niger, and he bought a copy of my book. Within the last couple weeks he has returned to Niger. He wrote, “I had an encouraging conversation with Deb Berruti, who is a physical therapist working at Galmi hospital. She was very interested in the trike. I will include her on this reply so that she can write to you. I gave her my copy of your book to read so that she can understand His Wheels International and you a bit better.”

Then yesterday we boxed a trike up and sent it to Messiah College. In February when the College begins its Spring Semester one of the engineering instructors will be using the trike as curriulumn for a computer analysis course. Pray that the trike will spark some of the students interest in a new way for using their creativity for Christ. We also look forward to how these students will further the work of the trike during their course.

God has also been at work on the home front. Last night our engineer met with a area resident who contacted us about volunteer opportunities. Vadim is a design engineer and is part of First Baptist of Wheaton, IL, a new church to our rooster of churches. So we are glad to have invite yet another volunteer onto our team.

One need that has surfaced is to have a few volunteers who would like to take our trikes to different hands on events. We have been asked to feature trikes at disability camps/retreats/mission evenings/conferences/disability Sunday event and other places. We have the trikes but we haven’t found anyone who could head this part of our ministry up. If you or someone you know would be interested in such an opportunity please contact us.
